With the elimination of halons, all the countries in the world are actively looking for the replacement of halon fire extinguishing agent. Carbon dioxide, heptafluoropropane, Inergen, IG-541 aerosol and SDE currently are widely used Halon substitutes, these substitutes products has its own advantages and disadvantages, and also apply in their common areas. Another substitute is water mist fire extinguishing agent and its advantages are low price, small dosage, little pollution, is convenient to take and use, little damage to the protected objects and it can be used in power distribution room, document base, ancient architecture group of special occasions, its application prospect is very broad. With the rapid development of economy, fire have great harmful to people’s live and life, our country pay more attention to fire fighting, water mist fire extinguishing agent and fire extinguishing system have its significant advantage, making researchers at home and abroad carried out a lot of research work on the water mist fire extinguishing technology, which has the profound significance.This paper mainly researches the effect of high pressure water mist fire extinguishing system. And this paper is introducing the definition, mechanism, characteristic parameter and system composition of water mist fire extinguishing system. The experimental research platform of high pressure water mist fire extinguishing system was set up by the method of small size experiment, and study the effectiveness of high pressure water mist suppressing and quenching of a Class A and class B fire through a series of experiments. For class A fire, we use wood fire as the object of study, from three aspects of changing:the nozzle discharge coefficient of water mist, precombustion time, and water mist applied time to examine the effect of high pressure water mist fire extinguishing and get some laws. For class B fire, we use diesel oil as the object of study, applying or does not apply water mist for comparison and change precombustion time and nozzle discharge coefficient to the study of high pressure water mist for class B fire extinguishing effect. So that the nozzle discharge coefficient of water mist system, precombustion time, water mist action time are important parameters that affecting the extinguishing effect.
