Railway is the main hub for China’s economic development and railway safety is the cornerstone of the country’s economic development, to ensure the safety of railway lines operation on the road is very important. Taking the railcar as an example, railcars’shunting operations are finished through turnouts at the railway station. However, many turnouts are squeezed when railcars are going through the turnouts, especially in the frequent shunting turnout area. The accidents of squeezing turnout not only cause significant economic losses, but also greatly reduces the efficiency of transport and work at the railway station. Therefore, the research purpose of this paper is how to avoid the accidents of squeezing turnout.This paper aims at the problem of squeezing turnout when the railcars are shunting. At first, by analyzing the accident cases, it leads to the immediate causes of squeezing turnout. Combined with ground equipments in the turnout area, it analyzes the deficiency of GYK in terms of avoiding the accidents of squeezing turnouts and comes to a conclusion that GYK has no effect in uncoded turnouts area and it cannot prevent the accidents of squeezing turnout. In this context, the paper proposes a plan of using transponders on the basis of GYK-BTM. In this plan, transponders are used to deliver the driving information to the GYK. GYK controls the railcar shunts safely with the aid of driving information further.Because the research object of this paper is the problem of squeezing turnouts, the emergency braking distance that under different speed should be took into account when setting up transponder groups. When setting up transponder group specifically, it needs to refer to the transponder application principle of CTCS-2 level train control system. The transponder groups are decorated in the turnouts area of switchyard by calculating the emergency braking distance under different limited speed. The GYK system generates the target distance control curve and control the railcar drive according to the curve. At this point, even the railcar across the shunting signal or the turnout opens the wrong direction, the GYK equipment can also ensure the railcar brakes before the turnout. After setting up the transponder groups, the paper researches the installation conditions and requirements of transponder on ballasted track and ballastless track.In this paper, the transponder system is used in the scheme of preventing railcar from squeezing turnouts. It can not only effectively avoid squeezing turnouts, but also in a certain extent to enhance the efficiency of station shunting. Make sure that the speed peak is lower than the allowed passing speed of the turnout. In this way, we can ensure the safety of the shunting operation and improve the efficiency at the same time.
