Building template steel is a kind of deformed steel. Due to the complexity shape of the cross section, building template steel is usually applied to many specific occasions. At present, building template steel has been widely used in urban building, plant construction, port, power plant facilities, drilling platforms, bridges and subway and other industries. However, since the hot rolling of building template steel is relatively complex which happens under the high temperature and high pressure, the real-time detection of internal information for building template steel in the rolling process is difficult to be realized. The finite element simulation is an effective measure to demonstrate the internal information during the whole hot rolling process. This method is used to optimize the process parameters and to control the quality of the molding.This research chooses the rolling process of building template steel C158 as study object. Based on the actual production process of Laiwu Iron and Steel Group, this topic builds geometry models of rollers and workpiece, sets boundary conditions and interaction parameters, and completes cogging rolling, universal rolling process. However, the drastic plastic deformation involved in the transient rolling process may lead to meshing distortion in simulation which would result into inaccurate simulation results.This research analyzes the hot rolling process of building template steel, and AutoCAD was used to draw two-dimensional model of building template steel. The geometry model can be based on the two-dimensional model. By setting parameters such as material properties, analysis step, initial boundary condition, load, meshing and so on, finite element analysis was completed of building template steel hot rolling process. Through the finite element method simulation analysis of the building template steel, the information of whole rolling process can be got, such as temperature field, stress field as well as the law of metal flow. In this paper, re-meshing algorithm is applied to ensure the accurate transmission of rolling information.This research uses ABAQUS software platform which supports secondary development. The self-defined simulation system of building template steel rolling is developed by Python programming language and the secondary development interface of ABAQUS. It includes geometric modeling, high-pressure water descaling, cogging rough rolling, universal rolling and cooling five modules. By developing the self-defined simulation system, the process of rolling can be achieved modularization, parameterization, and the operation of this interface is simple.The rolling process of building template steel C158 was taken as an example to conduct a simulation analysis. Through the analysis of temperature field, stress field and the flow law of metal, it can provide a reliable basis for program optimization, rolling shape control and roll pass design. The simulation system developed in this paper is able to realize the simulation analysis of building template steel rolling process. The simulation system can provide theoretical guidance to rolling process optimization, shorten the development cycle of new building template steel and cut the cost.
