Chinese classical garden has a long history and profound application in landscape planning. The city park in Shangluo was chose as the research object. Landscape planning and artistic expression of classical garden was showed in the city park, so as to provide the reference for the application of classical garden in modern landscape design.1) Landscape planning of park in Shangluo was showed. The gateway should be convenient for access and management, modelling style was consistent with the park and the nearby city architectural; Park road was distinct in primary and secondary, and close coordination with the local conditions and terrain. Square layout should meet visitor activities such as performance, rest, and other functions; The layout of the architectural form should be in harmony with the nature, function, also the building style should maintain unity; Terrain was depend on the park green space, a natural and harmonious landscape was created by making full use of the original topography; Greening tree species should be given priority to local tree species, the exotic trees were complementary. A reasonable layout was carried on according to the principle of ecology for creating a beautiful landscape.2) Artistic expression of classical garden mainly was presented. Plant landscaping in the entrance area should rich the street view and the color level; Plant landscaping in the cultural entertainment district should fully reflect the artistic conception of scenic spots, making people can produce rich imagination; Plant landscaping in children’s play area should meet children’s lively natural curiosity, formation of flower border; Plant landscaping in the rest area need to make a few pieces of plant community, in order to form different color of forest community scene. Some pavilion, gallery, pavilions, bridges and other buildings were set up to make the poetic meaning in the classical garden. Various garden ornaments should be combined with the surrounding landscape, to achieve the mutual coordination and symbiotic environment system. Poetry, lettering, and other forms of art were used to appreciate beautiful scenery at the same time, making visitors can deeply influence by their mental state, realizing the main meaning and expression of modern connotation of garden landscape.
