With the rapid economical development, the relatively lagging transport infrastructure construction cannot keep up with the increasing and diversified traffic demand. In this situation, the traffic guidance system is an effective way to solve the problem of traffic congestion. In this paper, to assist traffic management departments to make reasonable traffic guidance strategy, game theory is applied to analyze the interactive decision-making process of manager and road user and investigate the role of traffic guidance information in improving network performance. The main contents are as follows.Based on Stackelberg game model, the game rules of manager and user in traffic guidance system are introduced. The manager’s strategy is releasing route travel time to users. According to the released information, users make route choice. The Stackelberg game model of manager and user is established and the solution algorithm which is based on genetic algorithm is proposed. The numerical results suggest that the Stackelberg equilibrium is better than the stochastic user equilibrium and the traffic strategy generated by the game model is efficient to improve the network performance. For manager, the reputation risk of releasing predictive information is discussed. The value φ is defined to evaluate the accuracy of released information. The importance of accurate guidance information is explained by using the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma. The constraint of φ is added to the manager-user game model and a solution algorithm is designed to control the value φ. The numerical results show that the algorithm is efficient to guarantee the accuracy of guidance information. The modified route travel time is defined and the manager-user game model in which the manager’s strategy is releasing modified route travel time is established. A solution algorithm which is based on PSO is proposed. The numerical results suggest that when the modified range is big enough, the road network could reach and maintain the system optimum. Furthermore, the modified strategy is capable to cope with the road capacity decline. The manager-user game model in dynamic route guidance system is established. To simplify the question, the model is discretized and the solution algorithm is presented. In this discretized model, the manager’s strategy is releasing modified average route travel time. Based on NaSch model, the traffic evolution model is established and with Matlab, the simple road network is described to make simulation. The simulation results show that the modified strategy is better than the feedback strategy to improve the network performance, especially for the high traffic conditions.
