With the rapid development of China’s railways, more and more passengers travel by train. Comparing with booking at ticket window, automatic ticketing system has many advantages, like low cost, high efficiency, no restrictions on time and place, etc. As a result, many passengers enjoy using it. However, the existing interaction design of automatic ticketing system has problems in heavy cognitive load. To improve efficiency and success rate, further research is needed. This paper completes the following work:1) This paper introduces interaction design and cognitive load theory, and applies cognitive load theory to interaction design. Then it summarizes methods of reducing cognitive load in interaction design. Lastly, it presents interactive design principles based on cognitive load theory.2) Put forward an interaction scheme for automatic ticketing system. According to the current interacting situation of automatic ticketing system, this paper discuss in information design, transaction flow design and layout design, and puts out the design scheme.3) Develop a program to implement the interaction scheme. Comparing different desktop application developing technology, this paper choose NW.js framework as its developing technology. It introduces the development in software framework and function modules. Then it carries out a usability testing for the interaction design, evaluates effectiveness, efficiency and users’ opinion, and brings out problems to improve.
