Intersections are important part of urban road systems. They are the hinges of urban road network as traffic flows from a couple of directions converge, thus, they are under considerable traffic pressure. This paper mainly studies the intersections in arteries.Engineers all over the world are doing research in depth, improving conventional strategies, and proposing some relatively innovative method such as "U-turn intersections",’Left turn cycle lane intersections’,’Tie intersections’and so on.The paper studies these unconventional control strategies, involving traffic flow organization, advantages and disadvantages and the optimal conditions of usage. This paper researches the "double stop lines" strategy quantitatively. The principle of the strategy is to make most use of space-time resources from the view of "exchanging time with space"by providing more available lanes. This paper makes selective analysis and quantitative evaluation on the strategy by simulation. The major method of the study is to build a simulation model, comparing the performances between the conventional strategy and "double stop lines "strategy under different traffic volume. Finally, the author summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the control strategy and discusses the design detail of the "double stop lines" strategy.
