Nowadays, as the state regards “to cultivate tourism into a strategic mainstay industry of national economy and modern service industry people are more satisfied with” as the top concern of the structure adjustment of tourism industry, the development of equipment manufacturing industry, including the recreational vehicles, has been strengthened constantly. The rise of family self-driving leisure vocation has also promoted the demand and supply of RVs. However, domestic recreational vehicle industry is still in an infantile stage. Auto manufacturers lack a sound theoretical support and positive research and development specification, and the technological method is just a refit of the second or the third type of chassis. Therefore, an overall study of RVs’ design and body dynamics has important theoretical significance and practical value.Utilizing advanced CAD software, combining with knowledge of ergonomics, this thesis regards the recreational vehicles which meet the needs of family of four as research object, and makes a research of the overall design of RVs. Besides, Solidworks software will be adopted into the 3D modeling of RV body; STAR CCM+ will be applied to the simulated analysis of the aerodynamic characteristics of the front and side of RVs. The main conclusions are as follows:First, the light RV designed by this thesis selects the front-engine front axle chassis layout, leaving enough space for the below of the car. It can meet the basic requirements of four adults to travel and live. This kind of RV is 5960 mm in length, 2550 mm in width, and 3900 mm in wheel base, with good mobility.Second, this thesis makes an aerodynamic simulation analysis of the bodywork of light RVs. Through an analysis of the pressure distribution of its surface, it finds that the below of front car body and the center of windshield have greater pressure. It also verifies that it is rational to establish the engine cooling water tank inlet port in the front face of the cab. What’s more, increasing the windshield curvature of the front end will decrease the drag coefficient.Third,it makes a simulation analysis of the aerodynamic characteristics of light RVs in cross wind conditions. The windward side pressure of cross wind varies along with the increase of crosswind deflection angle. Drag coefficient, lateral force coefficient, and rolling moment coefficient increase with crosswind deflection angle. So do lift coefficient and yaw moment coefficient. But they do not change significantly.
