H-shape Steel beam is the main bending component in steel structure, which consists of top and bottom steel flanges and a steel web. The flanges of steel beam mainly resist bending stress while the web resists shear stress. Compared with conventional plane web, corrugated web possess higher out of plane stiffness and stability. Steel beams with thin corrugated webs can resist the structural shear force without stiffeners, thus steel beams with corrugated webs have better economic efficiency. The mechanical properties of corrugated web has become a popular topic recently. The purpose of this paper is to study the global stability of steel beams with corrugated webs. The research methods used in this paper include experiment, finite element method, and theoretic analysis. The experiment was conducted in ZhengZhou structural laboratory on four full size steel beams with sinusoidal corrugated web. Gravity load is adopted as loading regime. On each specimen, 14 measure points was set include 8 strain gauging points and 6 displacement measure points. During the loading procedure, the standard weights were loaded by steps, and the test data was receive after each load step. The test ended when the pecimen failed for lateral-torsional buckling. Aftre the test, the deformed shape of each beam was observed and the critical buckling strength was recorded. In finite element analysis, the general FEM software ANSYS is utilized.SHELL181 element is adopted to model the flanges and web. The engine buckle analysis and plastic static analysis are conducted on each beam. By FEM analysis, the buckling models, stress distribution and the critical buckling value of each beam could be obtained, and more useful conclusion is obtained by parameter analysis. There are two design code related to corrugated web steel structure, but no one provides the equation to calculate global stability strength of cantilever beam with corrugated web. In this paper, the author propose a simple method to simplify the design process. The reliability of this method is verified by FEM analysis.
