In recent years, along with the rapid development of society, the increasing of impact and nonlinear loads produces serious interference in rural low-voltage grid. Meanwhile, higher quality requirements for the electric energy are put forward due to the improvement of living standard in rural areas.In rural low-voltage grid system, power distribution has always been associated with the users. Therefore, the stability of distribution system directly affects the electric energy quality for users. Presently, reactive compensation has become a key problem in rural low-voltage grid. Hence, the application of SVG (Static Var Generator) in rural low-voltage grid is researched in this paper.Firstly, present situation of reactive compensation in rural low-voltage grid and the status of SVG in China and abroad are introduced in detail. The principle of reactive compensation and the calculation of parameters and wastage in grid are studied, based on which the effect of reactive compensation on rural low-voltage grid is deeply analyzed.Secondly, the principle of SVG is expounded, and the input and output characteristics of SVG as well as topological structure model is established and studied. Meanwhile, the measurement of current during reactive compensation is critical. Consequently, detection model for current vector in dq coordinates is established. And a kind of reactive compensation control strategy for SVG based on Fuzzy PI, which can dynamically compensate the reactive current in the grid, is proposed.Finally, MATLAB/Simulink simulations of the reactive current detection and the control strategy for SVG based on Fuzzy PI are carried out. The accuracy of reactive current detection is verified. Simulation results also show that the control strategy proposed in this paper based on fuzzy PI has good compensation characteristics. And the proposed control strategy is verified through the gripper Reardon substation project in the actual operation, which shows satisfying results that has been expected.
