Research On The Constructing Technique Of The Traditional Architecture Of Residence In Taigu County, Shanxi Province

This paper belongs to the National Social Science Fund Project" Research on the Constructing Technique of the Traditional Architecture of Residence in Shanxi Province", project number:14BG083, this paper is one of its project funding results.Traditional residence is an important part of Chinese traditional architecture and it is closely related to people’s daily life and production.It has flexible design, reasonable function, economical structure and unadorned appearance. Moreover, it is closely combined with the natural environment, has strong ethnic characteristics and local style. It is the valuable heritage of Chinese traditional architecture. China has vast territory, abundant resources, a variety of natural landscape and rich cultures, the climatic conditions are different from north to South. Taigu County is located in the central part of Shanxi Province, in the Jinzhong Basin, belongs to the Jinzhong City. Because of the Confucian culture, the culture of Shanxi merchants and the feudal hierarchical system influence, the construction techniques there are in particular pecking order with the axisymmetric courtyard houses, also there is some flexible, adjust measures to local conditions, individualized induced by the local practices.This paper takes traditional residence of Taigu County as the research object, on the one hand, from the technical aspect to interpret the relationship between the construction techniques and architectures; on the other hand, from the cultural framework to analyze reasons behind folk culture. In a large number of field surveys and interviews, the construction technique of traditional dwellings in Taigu County was detailed recorded, analyzed and comparative studied, in the end I summed up the regional characteristics of the construction techniques in order to grasp the detailed process of the construction of traditional residence from location to the end, to experience the relationship between the construction techniques and local culture.The first chapter of the paper established the topic and clarifies the research purpose, significance, method and framework. The second chapter described the traditional residence in Taigu County, the natural environment, human environment, space, courtyard organization, typical houses and so on, making sure that the formation and evolution of the traditional dwellings in Taigu county is determined by the unique geographical and cultural factors. The third chapter is the core of the whole paper, from build tools, construction planning and preparation, building process, the ceremony of construction, building taboo these five aspects to summarise the construction technical of traditional dwellings in Taigu County, thus better understand traditional dwelling culture and cultural influences. The fourth chapter analyzed and summarized the status and problems of traditional dwellings in Taigu County. The fifth chapter summarized the full text from the residential space, construction techniques, protection and inheritance.In summary, this paper according to the theory and practice of combining research ideas, traditional dwellings in Taigu County and ecological environment, current problens, construction technique and heritage protection. The main innovation is reflected in:(1) the study is not only stay in the environment, history, culture and other aspects of space form, but the traditional dwellings building skills. From the traditional tools, planning and preparation, construction process, rituals, taboos to describe the construction technology of traditional dwellings in Taigu County. (2) to build skills and heritage protection as a key difficulty for a breakthrough, and for residential construction skills in Taigu County affected by economic, cultural, institutional and other aspects, how to build houses to protect and pass on skills and put forward practical feasible. By this paper, The author wants to publicize traditional residence in Taigu county and its art skills, at the same time, raise concerns, conservation and heritage awareness of traditional residence in Taigu county, and continue to take the intangible assets to be well maintained.
