Qufu has been one of the important cities of the Qilu district since the very beginning of the Zhou Dynasty, when Zhou Gong became the seignior of the region.Confucius was born in Qufu, and most of his remarkable education career and writing achievements had been done here, since he died, his apprentice built the Confucian templein order to commemorate him.With the upgrade of the status of Confucianism and Confucius himself, Qufu Confucian temple became more apparent, which made city-temple space relationship of the ancient Qufuchanges accordingly.This thesis is for the purpose of clarifying the city-temple space relationship of the ancient Qufucity from the Han Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasty. This thesis takes feudal social thought having the feature of strengthenthe trunk and weakened the branch’as the main line of research.The first part of the thesis involves the history of the ancient QufuCity and the Confucian temple from the Han Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasty based on their temporal relationships, spatial relationships and proportional relationships. Combining the consideration of the status of the ancient Qufu city and the development Confucianism, the city-temple spatial relationship is divided into major parts basically as follows:city-temple transition period, city-temple integration period, city-temple discrete period, city-temple independent period and the final form conformation period.The second portion of this thesis involves the research of the city-temple spatial relationship of the ancient Qufu city of the Ming and Qing Dynasty, based on the aspect of city-temple axis relationship, spatial figure-ground relationship and architectural color. The ’temple as trunk, city as branches’ city-temple spatial relationship was identified by combining the characteristics of the strengthen trunk and weakened branches’feudal social thought.This thesis is for the purpose of clarifying the city-temple space relationship of the ancient Qufucity from the Han dynasty to the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty. This paper is intended to provide ideas or direction for research in this field. The methodology this paper used can also be approached by other research.
