With China’s rapid economic development, vehicle production and sales is No.1 for many years, from cities to rural areas, vehicle becomes more and more popular in people’s lives, as bringing convenience to people’s lives, some problems have appeared, such as vehicle’s running status monitoring, fault warning and safety management, etc. The advent of vehicle remote monitoring system using wireless communication, embedded system and automotive bus control technology, effectively solves those problems, achieving remote monitoring and management of vehicle, improving the safety of vehicle.This paper researched and analyzed remote monitoring system of vehicle and related technologies, introduced 3G wireless communication technology which is applied in vehicle remote monitoring system. CAN bus protocol standard, the physical signaling mechanisms, packets frame format, and bus arbitration and management mechanism are introduced in CAN bus technology. Vehicle remote monitoring system is designed based on 3G network and CAN bus technologies. The system’s functions include the vehicle running state monitoring, security management, etc. features of running stably, fast data transfer rates, real-time, secure, reliable, and easy to use, promoting the development of car networking and intelligent transportation systems technology.The main contents of this paper include detailed introduction of the overall structural design, functions and principle of vehicle remote monitoring system based on 3G/CAN technology, onboard control terminal hardware/software design and tests, remote server environment’s building, design, integration test and software features. This system consists of two main parts including remote server and vehicle control terminal, remote server’s responsibility includes sending remote control commands, storing vehicle running status information, and processing and analysis data; Onboard control terminal based on ARM11 communicates with remote server via 3G network, with responsibility including transmitting remote server control commands to each onboard node, uploading the nodes’ data capturing from the CAN bus to remote server for the storage, statistics, processing and analysis of data.Remote server communicates with onboard control terminal, using AES encryption algorithm to encrypt the communication data to ensure the security of data transmission, and by using multi-threading technology to enhance the system’s concurrent processing capability. Remote server management software of the remote monitoring system is designed based on.NET Technology, which implements the remote monitoring of vehicle, vehicle information management, fault handling, vehicle data graphically processing and data analysis capabilities, with simple, beautiful, and easy to use user interface.The vehicle remote monitoring system based on 3G/CAN technology passed the integration running test, with a good performance on running stability, real-time and safety, achieving the expected design goal; in addition, the performance of the system in different network load rate was analyzed.
