As an important public space of the city, the air quality of the street is crucial to the pedestrian. The previous research has showed that street pattern is an important impact factor for the street microclimate. Then the research model of street canyon is still mainly based on European classical street, which is far cry from the modern street after the Modernism. Therefore, it is necessary for us to study and summarize the street patterns on basis of the microclimate. This paper tries to study the relationship between the street patterns and the air quality, and makes some recommendations for future street design.This paper selects the age of air as an evaluation criterion for the air quality, on basis of which studying the street patterns. Fist, after the street characteristics of Nanjing combed, a standard study model of the Nanjing streets is established through experiment. Then the street patterns are divided into streets enclosed by the residential buildings and streets enclosed by public buildings. For the former, the building along the street are summarized into some architecture types and then the models of the residential street are set to discuss the relationship of the street configuration and the air quality. For the latter, the study the characteristics by the single space, and 6 types of street model to study the relationship between the street patterns and the air quality. Finally, this paper selects 5 real streets to validate the previous study, and summaries the relationship of the streets patterns and the air quality, and proposes some street design strategies based on age of air. This paper also proposes some outlook and recommendations for the street morphology study based on the air quality.
