With the accelerated urbanization in our country and rapid economic development,more and more construction methods, which are efficient, convenient and environmental, are gradually recognized by engineering. Steel sheet pile walls have been widely used in the flood block, the cofferdam of bridge pier, and the flood-relief,because there are lots of peculiarities of it, such as high bending strength, good anti-permeability performance, and easy construction. The steel sheet pile cofferdam is the important supporting structure during the process of building the cushion caps of a bridge. The safety and stability analysis research on steel sheet pile cofferdam has also achieved very good results, forming a relatively mature analysis method.On the basis of the collected research data at home and abroad, this paper summarized the calculation method of steel plate pile cofferdam, and compared some traditional computing methods, such as the free support method, the equivalent beam method, the elastic curve method, the vertical elastic foundation beam method and finite element method. In this paper, the principle of finite element analysis has been also introduced. Some common isotropous materials’ constitutive model has been introduced. With the finite element analysis software, the parameters of Mohr-Coulomb model type also have been mentioned in this paper.Taking the project of steel sheet pile cofferdam on the Baiyuntan bridge’s second pier as background, this paper introduces the finite element calculation process. Using the results of the finite element method, I analyzed the strength and deformation of this steel sheet pile cofferdam, and put forward the optimized design scheme of convenient construction. Using the finite element analysis software to simulate the process of the steel sheet pile cofferdam construction, I calculate stress and strain of steel sheet pile under various operating conditions. On the premise of meeting steel sheet pile and inner support stability requirements, we can adjust the layout plan of the cofferdam inner support to achieve convenient construction as well as high quality of bridge cushion caps.
