A rapidly increasing demand for cars emerges with the development of the social economy. Automobiles have become an integral part of modern civilization. In the meantime, the desire for security performance of automobiles raises. An engine provides power to a car, which works the same way as a heart to a human being. The performance of an engine affects automobile’s mobility, economy and environmental friendliness. A bracket is the direct support for installing attachments to an engine. Its reliability directly leads to whether attachments and engine would function properly. A bracket plays an important role in engine performance, though it may not be the core component in an engine. At the beginning, this thesis introduces the relevant components to a bracket. Then,3D models and finite element models are built to show the bracket assembly. Next, we use ABAQUS, a finite element analysis software, to run an analysis of bracket assembly model, and a static strength analysis of two brackets for engine attachment. In the second part, The thesis explains how we import the result of analysis to fatigue analysis software FEMFAT for a fatigue performance analysis, which generates a minima fatigue safety coefficients. It turns out that an air-conditioning pump bracket has a relatively high minima fatigue safety coefficients. Finally, We apply topological optimization calculation to air-conditioning pump bracket, using variable density approach, based on its high safety margin. We choose to delete the region with variable density lower than 0.1 per unit. The 3D model design of air-conditioning pump bracket is in reference with the isocline graph of the model generated from last step. At last, we run the modal analysis to test the static strength and fatigue performance of the new air-conditioning pump bracket installed in an engine, to evaluate whether its performance would meet the operating requirements, as well as the success of this optimization.
