The thesis ascends to the origin of museum. It presents a brand-new analysis on the inheritance and development of ancient buildings by comparing the protection and utilization of Chinese and foreign ones. The thesis reviews ways of protecting ancient buildings generally. Thereupon, it tries to provide on personal perspective a suggestion on how to effectively protect ancient buildings:constructing furniture museum. The present writer first of all collects materials and conducts an on-the-spot mapping of Jingxin Grand Courtyard in order to analyze initial information such as its status quo of protection, layout and embellishment and meanwhile, to map out the initial building of the Grand Courtyard. As antique furniture is the theme of the Jingxin Grand Courtyard-themed furniture museum, the present writer then analyzes different functional subareas and spatial streamlines in a way to arrange appropriate furniture into different subareas. Finally, the concerns are on the light, color and technological methods etc. in the layout. On the whole, the thesis applies the design philosophy of ancient building-themed museum to the practical design of Jingxin Antique Furniture Museum in order to serve as a suggestion to protect and utilize ancient Chinese buildings.
