Research On Universal Design Of Vending Machine

With the development of economy, the degree of social modernization is rapid increasing. As a new form of sales and public service facilities in modern society,the vending machine are becoming more and more popular.It has been popularized and applied in the developed countries such as Europe, America, Japan, Korea and so on.However,China has just introduced the vending machine not a long time,so that the design of vending machine in our country is still not perfect.In fact there is only a small part of people whose physical and mental function are healthy can conveniently use vending machine. And some elderly, disabled, children and other special groups whose physical, psychological, cognitive and other aspects of the ability is lacking or inadequate would face a lot of difficulties when use the vending machine so that there are very few people who can use the vending machine correctly, quickly and successfully.In order to meet the needs of different consumer groups and reflect the social fairness and care, the use of Universal Design’s in the design of vending machines has become the trend of the times.Universal Design stresses the need for the public to make the best possible design to meet all the needs of the population,and to treat all users without distinction, so as to eliminate discrimination and injustice. At the beginning, this paper introduces the spread situation of vending machine and analyzes the pressure that the elderly and the disabled people’s population are increasing with the coming of aging time,which reflects the importance of Universal Design’s concept, and describes the connotation,principle and suitable group of Universal Design,at the same time, the feasibility of the design of the vending machine is analyzed on this basis of this analysis.With the understanding of vending machine’s common structure,function and other characters,combined with the analysis of different people’s characteristics and consolidation, this paper summarizes the defects and shortcomings of the current design of the vending machine.As to these defects and shortage, this paper makes a detail analysis of universal design for the shape, color, interface, prompt system of vending machine according to the Universal Design ’ s process and principles,taking into consideration of ergonomics,design psychology,design chromatology and other science disciplines.Then it sums up design points and problem solutions, and proposed the feasible scheme.At the end of this paper, it evaluates the design proposal by the "3P evaluation method".Thus, the design proposal and the analysis results are confirmed, and the scientific nature of the principle of Universal Design is verified.
