Vehicles-pedestrian conflict is important risks affecting the security of pedestrian-crossing especially in the place where people flows is large. Urban road design criterion in our country states that signal lights should be set up in large flow of people location, but there are a large number of sections is not set it in our country. Vehicles-pedestrian conflict is serious, especially in the case of multi-lanes. Pedestrian crossing process will be serious conflict with motor vehicle and it is not safe for pedestrians. What is more, vehicles delays cause relatively large impact. Above all, it is reasonable for setting of pedestrian refuges to clear the right of way and it is a important measure to improve the efficiency of people and vehicles crossing the street.In this situation, combining with cross section and intersection control programs, this research propose a pedestrian refuges setting method and a signalized intersection refuges setting method.According to the video, investigating pedestrian characteristics of no signal control sections in different cross section forms under multi-lanes road conditions.Through researching the pedestrian crossing and waiting feature, we obtained the characteristics of different size groups in different locations.Research on multi-lanes without signal control sections safety island setting method : First according to the pedestrian in the waiting area under different road transect form of pedestrian safety island to set up reasonable position.And then through the pedestrians in the arrival distribution and the headway of vehicle distribution concluded that the relation between the average wait number of pedestrians in starting point and arrival rate of pedestrians and vehicles arrival rate.Based on the data statistics fitting and reached the relationship between the remaining number of pedestrians waiting at a safe position and the average number of people waiting at the starting point.And obtaining reasonable area of pedestrian refuge island according to the pedestrian average occupancy area and level of service.then, obtaining reasonable width and size design of pedestrian refuge island.Study on design methods of multi-lanes signalized intersections pedestrian refuge island:calculating and compairing people-vehicles delays of twice crossing dislocation pedestrian island and non-dislocation pedestrian island to obtain the applicable conditions for setting dislocation pedestrian island.
