As the modern successor of GSM-R, LTE-R has been stipulated by UIC as the mail technology for train-ground communication in the next generation of railway train control systems. But for the communication system, the hardware equipment breakdown, transmission error, wireless link break off, and handover failure may not be avoid. These above errors could affect performance of train control system. Therefore, there is a high level of requirement for the reliability of LTE-R communication system.In this paper, we analyze the reliability of LTE-R communication system in different application scenarios using Markov model and reliability block diagram method. Moreover, in order to enhance the reliability of the LTE-R based train-ground communication system, D2D communication in LTE-advanced and the MME Pool Core Network disaster recovery technology are introduced to establish two new kinds of LTE-R communication system:the D2D based LTE-R communication system and the MME Pool based Core Network enhanced LTE-R communication system. We analyze the reliability of the above two new LTE-R communication systems. The results show that both two new systems have better reliability performance than the traditional LTE-R system.The specific research contents of the thesis are as follows:(1) This paper studies the current GSM-R and public LTE network, then deduces the architecture of core and access network for LTE-R. The reasons of communication network failures are also analyzed in this section.(2) Combined with Markov and reliability block diagram methods, this article quantified analyzes the reliability of LTE-R communication system in different application scenarios.(3) Based on D2D communication system in LTE-Advanced and the MME Pool Core Network disaster recovery technology, this paper proposes two new models called:The D2D based LTE-R communication system and the MME Pool based Core Network enhanced LTE-R communication system. And the reliabilities of the two new LTE-R systems are calculated using Markov and reliability block diagram methods.The calculation results show that, compared with the traditional communication system, the two new proposed communication systems have a higher reliability. Especially when using the MME Pool technology, it can improve the equipment’s utilization rate on the basic of reliability improvement.
