Compass is an important part of the ship positioning and navigation systems and is widely used in all types of vessels to ensure safety of navigation. Currently, the nautical colleges and training institutions are using true equipment to teach and train. But with the complex structure, time-consuming operation and high cost of compass, many education and training institutions have less holdings. Others, some important operations of compass subject to site constraints and can’t be completed in a laboratory environment. Thus it results the relative lack of using and maintenance training of compass for the students.In addition, currently the evaluation for the practical operation of compass are mostly using human judgment. So assessments are highly subjective. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a simulation and evaluation systems for marine compass, both to meet the needs of teaching and training, but also to achieve automatic assessment function.The system includes two main parts. In the simulation aspect, firstly creating three-dimensional models of the compass, including the gyrocompass and magnetic compass. Secondly building scene, including the ship, wave, sun, mark and laboratory scene. Next, establishing the celestial coordinates in the virtual scene to simulate the sun’s apparent motion. Finally achieving interactive functions and simulation for compass, including the operation for component identification, using sun and mark to measure the compass deviation. When achieving the simulation system for PC, it also has developed the system for Android, iPhone, or Web.In the aspect of assessment, the paper has analyzed the features of the assessment of practical operation for compass to determine the assessment elements and established membership function for every element. And it has established assessment model based on AHP and fuzzy mathematics method. Build and implement the practical operation of marine compass automatic evaluation system in the MFC environment.Finally, it implements the interface between simulation system and evaluation system using the HTML file, makes the simulation system embedding in assessment system, achieves the data communication, and ultimately gets the automatic evaluation function...
