For quite a long period of time, rural housing construction relies on manual technology. The construction techniques remain at the level of traditional handcraft. Under this kind of self-organized building mode, many rural houses appear to be monotonous with long construction period, poor physical and safety performances. What’s worse, it causes serious low-level repeating building, which means more waste and pollution..Rural housing is a significant content in the call of the construction of New Countryside which concerns the personal benefits of villagers. Under the background of the rapid urbanization, the population and social structure of rural areas are experiencing obvious changes. The scale of population is rapidly decreasing. And the situation of aging and hollowing becomes serious. Guided by relevant policies, there are several large-scale reform activities in progress, such as village consolidation, rural land brought into market and rural residential land circulation. Apparently, huge numbers of rural housing are needed in this process. With the decreasing of the labor force and the increasing of the capital cost, the traditional construction technology is not profitable any more. The exploration of the sustainable construction mode of high quality, low cost and high efficiency rural housing undoubtedly own significance theoretically and pragmatically.Housing industrialization is an overwhelming trend considering the general situation of the housing construction at home and abroad. As to be prefabricated off-site and assembled on-site, it has a high degree of standardization, short construction duration with quality guaranteed. Moreover, it leaves less pollution on-site. In a word, the industrialization is useful for solving problems encountered during the construction of rural housing. The thesis attempts to summarize the current situation of the rural housing taking rural Sunan as an instance and gives birth to a new building system for large-scale new village construction through a promising approach of modular industrialization to achieve more flexibility beyond the benefits brought only by industrialization.Firstly, the concept of the modular design is introduced and the necessary parameters are collected from the survey. Secondly, the possible construction process and the type of organization of modular housing are expounded. And the modular classification system with basic modular additional modular、adaptive modular has been built. Thirdly, on the level of industrial manufacturing, the thesis explores an implementation method of modular housing in rural areas adopting lightweight steel as its main structure. Finally, this thesis shows a detail rural house using the method of modular industrialization as an instance, and attempts to study its composition. Then six units of different functions as well as family types are displayed and analyzed comparatively. The total word of the main body is 24000 with 70 graphs and tables.
