Nuclear power plant’s safety is of prime importance for the safety of people’s lives and property, and containment is the most important barrier for nuclear power plant. In recent years, china’s nuclear power industry has developed flourishingly, large scale construction of nuclear power are launching. We introduce foreign advanced nuclear power technology; meanwhile we achieve some independent innovation, using new technology and new materials in the reconstruction of containment. One of the new technologies, we use a new type of self-compacting concrete in mass concrete integral technology, to improve the quality of concrete and shorten the construction period.During the inspection of completion, some defects are found in containment such as crack and bulge. The aim of our study is to reduce the number of defects of containment, without lengthening the construction period. Therefore we take the data of pressure, stress and temperature in the construction process of containment, analysis and control the data index to optimize the construction organization design.Firstly, the type and the cause of defects are introduced in this paper, and the project of monitoring temperature in mass concrete construction is introduced, to understand the monitoring of the construction process of containment. The containment pressure test is introduced to understand the cause of containment defects. The self-compacting concrete is introduced to know the performance of concrete used in the nuclear power plant. An experiment of application of self-compacting concrete in truncated cone was conducted by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN), in this experiment, we monitored the stress and strain of the steel lining of truncated cone in the construction process, and analysed the process of stress changing of steel lining. Finite element method was used to simulate the stress and strain of steel lining during the construction, through the use of simulation, we optimized the construction organization and reduce the principal stress of the steel lining. At last, we implemented the new construction organization into the formal concrete placement of truncated cone of containment, monitored the stress and strain during the concrete pouring, and compared the stress result of different schemes.With the analysis of the stress during the construction process of truncated cone, we had mastered the stress changing process of steel lining during the construction process, and we work out a better construction organization, to improve the quality of the containment of nuclear power plant, to shorten the construction period., and accumulate valuable experience for the follow-up construction of the nuclear power plant.
