Tire cord direct cabling machine is a special twisting machine for processing balanced 2-ply tire cord and industrial yarns. Current tire cord production technology is high energy consumption, therefore efficiency improvement by energy saving has become the latest development trend. In the direct cabling process, the yarn tension is the most important factor for the yarn break strength. According to the energy saving requirement of tire cord production, a yarn tension control system for Allma CC3 tire cord direct cabling machine is designed.Firstly, a reasonable control scheme is proposed according to the running of Allma CC3 tire cord direct cabling machine. By designing an outer yarn automatic deliver system for accurate control on the yarn tension, it can reduce the load of the spindle motor to save the energy.Secondly, we complete the design of the tension control system with hardware and software respectively. For the hardware, we replace the original outer yarn tensioner with Nanotec standard stepper motor for more accurate control on the yarn tension. For the software, we use A3979 SLP microstepping motor driver with ATmega32 A microcontroller for driver controller and use B&R power panel as upper computer. With the feedback value from the tension sensor, the control system can adjust the yarn tension.After testing the system in the laboratory, we verify the actual production of the tension control system and the energy saving effect at real workshop. We also adjust system to the expected requirements of design.The test result shows the system can reduce energy cost up to 40% in a laboratory environment, and in the process of production in factory the energy can be reduced stably by at least 20%.
