Because of the development of the city and the improvement of public life standard, hotel industry is developing rapidly with creating various types of hotels such as holiday hotel, convention hotel, and economic hotel. This situation will definitely bring new challenges and opportunities to architecture design. For a hotel, besides the general rooms, the public area is an important element which can be both demonstration of the hotel and the transfer centre for organizing the people’s destination. The public area of the hotel is providing service not only for the customers but also for the neighborhood, and play a key role in boosting the city development. This thesis will be done by focusing on the research of Nanjing University Jiangning Science Park Hotel. It will research the hotel’s public space by using the method of combining theory and practice. The design will try to break trough the traditional model to reflect the humanistic spirit of Nanjing University Science Park as well as the fashion taste by data collection, on-site investigation and computer assistant. This thesis’s content and structure will be shown as follows. The first chapter is the general introduction which introduces the materials of the topic, the purpose of the design and the research method. The second chapter mainly introduces the basic situation with firstly introducing the location of this project, following by the introduction of the neighborhood’s situation based on the on-site research data, and finally pointing out the prediction and the goal of this project. The third chapter is the previous research of this project. Firstly understand the basic settings and requirements of the hotel’s pubic space, and then analyze two cases of Ningbo Wanda Sofitel Hotel and Xi’an Efanggong Kaiyue Hotel to get available information for the references of this design. The forth chapter is mainly about the layout of the park. It begins with the planning concept and then illustrates transportation planning, landscaping planning, drainage(or river) system design and vertical design with the proposal of eco-friendly architecture. Finally, the distribution of the park and this project location in the park is confirmed. The fifth chapter is the architecture design which is the most important part of this thesis. It firstly designs the site of this project based on the park planning and confirm the entrance of the site, the exit of the site and the entrance of the underground parking lot. Secondly from the function angle, it designs the entrances and exits of the hotel, and comes out both the available space structure and the transportation method based on the shape of the hotel and the requirements of the functional rooms. The sixth chapter provides the technical blueprints of this design.
