At present, the study of the urban morphology in China mainly focuses on the development of the urban morphology as a whole instead of the urban morphology of specific areas in cities. While by contrast, the western urban morphology, especially the Conzen school on the basis of historical geography, has focused on the scale of small towns, and has developed the urban morphology at the core of “town planning analysis”. These morphology-based studies and the value evaluation of the historic districts have brought a great many benefits to the scientific protections of the cities. This essay, research the Tunxilaojie street area, which is in Tunxi District, the downtown area of Huangshan City, called the flowing “Riverside Scene like Qingming scroll”.It was the business center of Huizhou and in the south area of Anhui Province, which was the best-preserved traditional downtown streets of the architectural style of Ming and Qing Dynasties in China. It is a typical sample of the investigation of the district for its small and clearly-defined scale. Besides, the application of the domestic and foreign theory of the city form with the micro-scaled districts in China has showed its theoretical and realistic meanings. The modern regenation of the Tunxilaojie Street Area has started after the fire in the republic of China. Based on the morphology analysis, this essay firstly analyzes the development of the historical geography of the the Tunxilaojie Street Area in Tunxi District, secondly combines the morphological characteristics, the author dividing the the Tunxilaojie Street Are into 4 periods. The first period is from the fire accident to the outbreak of the anti-Japanese War(1929-1937), featuring the plot updating of the business areas in the main streets in the Old Street Area. The second period is from the outbreak of the anti-Japanese War to the days before the foundation of the PRC(1937-1949), featuring the plot updating of the residential area along the main streets and the interior lanes. The third period is from the foundation of the PRC to the days before the policy of the reforming and opening up(1950-1977), featuring the plot updating of the inner part of the exterior edge of the main streets. The fourth period is the days after the policy of the reforming and opening up(ever since 1978),featuring the plot updating of the outer part of the exterior edge of the main streets. Then the author investigates the updating period of different space, analyzes the whole general morphological features contained building fabric of the updating area, explores the street system, plot texture, the architectural form unit, the type of uran unit and the building property right, and finally shows the influential factors and generalizes the whole features of this district. The spatial regenation of the the Tunxilaojie Street Area reaches from the interior space to the exterior space, which is the circle-layout of proliferation model from the main streets to the edge. The updating plots in different periods overlap each other and develop like pasteups. The main factors that influence the updating plot are as follows, the rise and fall of the economy, the transition of the population, the implementation of the government policy, the outbreak of the wars, the advance of the technology and the innovation of the architectural technology. On the one hand, these factors have a direct impact on the morphological characteristics of the change of the streets, on the other hand, they interact with each other, promoting the updating of street. This essay, based on the investigation of the morphological characteristics of the egenation of the streets, has not only provided practical evidence to the revaluation of the historic values and the protection of the the Tunxilaojie Street Area, but also indicated the empirical application of the the Conzen school into the spatial regenation of the streets in china with the micro-scale.
