Steel reinforced concrete structure(SRC) is a composite structure with the steel buried in reinforced concrete.Generally, people use full-web steel as core steel, such as I-shaped and cross-shaped steel sections. These traditional types are too heavy to use in prefabricated construction project. Therefore,a new-type cross section with box-shaped steel buried in reinforced concrete was put forward, this new-type can be prefabricated in manufactory, and assemble in spot relatively uncomplicated. Many theories and experiments are carried out on the seismic behavior of traditional SRC columns both here and abroad. But the SRC hollow column is different from the traditional ones, it is hard to know the seismic mechanism difference between them. Employing investigation into the seismic behavior of the SRC hollow beam-columns have an objective necessity.By employing ABAQUS FEM the paper analyzed 16 such SRC hollow beam-columns under quasi-static cyclic bending, considering different parameters such as axial compression ratio, stirrup ratio, steel ratio and the strength of the steel. The influences of these parameters on the seismic behavior of SRC hollow beam-columns are fully discussed. It is shown that the SRC hollow beam-columns designed to the current Chinese SRC structural code can basically fulfill the seismic requirements for frame columns. The limited values of axial compression force for SRC hollow beam-columns is derived based on the balanced condition of forces in the case of balanced failure, and analysed the influences of different definitions about the case of balanced failure on it. Based on the theory and finite element analysis results, some suggestions on the limited values of axial compression ratio are put forward finally, which can be referred in structural design.
