In the influence of great global climatic change, the control of carbon emission in the automobile exhaust and factory production has been paid more attention by the international society. However, as a high-carbon industry, the architecture has not got enough attention to control its carbon emission of entire life period which is nearly 50% of the global carbon emission. In many countries, evaluating systems of guiding the design have been drafted for the green building, but there is no standard for guiding the low-carbon design of entire life period architecture. This article used gymnasiums of Binjiang sports center and conference & exhibition center of Jiangmen City as the actual cases, utilized life-cycle theory as the breakthrough point, and focused on the research for low-carbon design methods of gymnasiums and conference & exhibition centers. The main contents of research were below:1. Clarfy the meaning of low-carbon building. Compare the differences and connections of low-carbon building, ecological building, green building and sustainable building. By analyzing the present standards and evaluation criterion of green buildings, extracted the related evaluating items of low-carbon architecture, and summarized the general design factors of lowcarbon architecture.2. Analyzed the physical problems in the low-carbon process of gymnasium and conference & exhibition buildings in our country, and raised the targeted countermeasure for the low-carbon design of gymnasium and conference & exhibition buildings.3. Researched the design process of low-carbon design by taking the gymnasiums of Binjiang sports center and conference & exhibition center of Jiangmen city as examples. Described the specific measures of items design in the fields of rational prophase plan, plan and design based on the entire city environment, architecture design based on suitability, and technology application based on reducing energy expenditure.By researching the actual cases, this article investigated the low-carbon design methods for the gymnasium and conference & exhibition buildings, and described the details in the fields of planning level, design level and technical level. This article was aimed at the methods of design in the perspective of low-carbon, increasing the carbon-reduction ability of architecture, relieving the problems in the practical use of this type of building, and offering some references for the design of gymnasium and conference & exhibition buildings in the future.
