During deep geological disposal of high level radioactive waste process, joint fissures in surrounding rock will decide whether the disposal repository is reliable and safety. The connective fracture network is the main channel of radionuclide migration especially in hard rock, such as granite. So it is necessary to do some research on granite’s joint and penetration characteristics. Based on the assessment of preselected area of Chinese High Level Radioactive Waste of Tianhu Area, Xinjiang province, the distribution of rock structural plane, joint surface characteristics and mechanical characteristics of seepage was researched in this paper.Through the outdoor investigation on the preselected area of Chinese High Level Radioactive Waste of Tianhu Area in Xinjiang province, a great deal of joint data were obtained from the survey of TH01, TH02 borehole. At the same time, geological graphic method was used to mark off the preferred attitude of the surface and the drilling joints and then conclude the relationship between the joints and the fracture. At last, the ancient tectonic stress field characteristics of study area was analyzed according to the surface structural plane development pattern.Based on the data from borehole core log and acoustic borehole televiewer survey, statistical methods was used to analysis the distribution of joints. Then, some hydraulic and mechanical parameters were obtained such as occurrence joint fissure group, fracture spacing, fracture aperture, etc.The algorithm for permeability tensor of rock mass joint is studied and the computer program is improved based on the research results. Two drilling permeability tensor are calculated using the program based on fracture geometry. At last, the effect of direction of geostress on direction of permeability tensor main penetration and composite osmotic coefficient was studied.
