Cars are important in today’s society, although some troubles have been brought such as traffic jam, accidents etc. In order to solve these problems, Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS) have been developed. And the vehicle ad-hoc networks(VANETs) is known as the communications module of the ITS. Derived from the traditional mobile ad hoc networks(MANET), VANETs use vehicles as its nodes. Nearly almost existing vehicle routing protocols are modified from the MANET routing protocols. However, as one of the MANET, VANETs have its own characteristics. MANET routing protocols got a poor performance in VANETs environments. Especially in balance the conflict between the packets lost rate and the network load.In this thesis, a traffic prediction(TP) based routing protocol has been designed which aims to reduce the network load and packet lost rate. The traffic prediction method is inspired by the social factors.Firstly, VTD-TPA(Vehicle Turning Data based Traffic Prediction Algorithm) is proposed, which improve the existing traffic prediction methods, for pre-work of the routing protocols. The dynamic relationship between the roads is quantified through the vehicle steering information. Roads which show a strong relationship are clustered. Then we take neural network method to predict the future traffic state for each cluster. Traffic prediction is used to plan the path of driving. Compare results, which between the VTD-TPA path planning method and Google path planning method, are shown in the end of the 3rd chapterSecondly, TP protocol, which for solving the ubiquitous conflict between the overhead and the packet lost rate in VANETs routing protocols, is designed based on prediction trajectory of the vehicle,. The prediction path of the vehicle is determined by the social attributes of the vehicles and the traffic prediction methods. Experimental analysis shows that the routing protocol solves the contradiction between overhead and packet lost rate successfully. Finally, TP routing protocol is implemented under the framework of VSimRTI, and validated protocol packet loss rate and network overhead.
