With the rapid development of aviation transportation industry, increasing traffic demand leads to the imbalance of supply and demand. Flight delay problem becomes increasingly prominent, which bring huge economic loss and waste of resources. Each aircraft need to perform multiple segment of mission in one day, preorder flight delays easily lead to subsequent flight delays, and bring a delay ripple effects. Aircraft operation between many airports, the airport delay state will affect the normal operation of the entire network, so it is necessary for researchers to study the airport flight delays problem in network, provide a new reference for reducing delays.This paper takes flight delay problem as the research object and delay propagation problem as the research content. With the help of mathematical statistics and data mining method, this paper research on flight delay propagation problem from the qualitative and quantitative point of view. Firstly, this paper expounds the background and the meaning of the study. Then introduce the related concepts of flight delays, made clear the definition of flight delays and statistical indicators, and summarized different flight delay reasons, proposed the corresponding research methods. Then based on a large number of flights historical operation data, established the airport flight delay networks, and analysis this network using complex network theory. We find that flight delay networks have the small-world and scale-free characteristics, and some core nodes in the airport networks. Scale-free network easily cause congestion. Finally, this paper uses the time series analysis method to process flight delay data, including detrended fluctuation and correlation methods, and find that delay time series is typical fractal time series and have long-range correlation characteristic. Airports which have the same operational circumstances are more correlated.
