Metal Rubber Damper is used widely in reducing vibration and noise, due to its superior performance. Because of its complex constitutive relations, the study of response under harmonic excitation is more than which of response under random excitation. In addition, the theoretical equations are always used as dynamic models of metal rubber damper, which is an effective method to study the structure of the system dynamic characteristics. But the structure feature, the material propertie and the installation method of the damper are hardly reflected. The 3-D finite element can compensate the drawback. Even though the speed of calculate is slow, the structure can be designed and analyzed easily and parameters can be adjusted well. So study random characteristics of the Metal Rubber Damper and research an effective modeling approaches have great significance for damper design in the engineering. The classical Tracing hysteretic system model was used as the standard model for the damper. And its equivalent parameters was gotten by using stochastic equivalent non-linear method. Then its random response under white Gaussian noise was deduced and calculated. Meanwhile, the Mento-Carlo simulation was used to simulate the random vibration experiment. After comparing the results gained from both methods, the theoretic feasibility of equivalent nonlinear method was validated. What’s more, the 3-D finite element model was established. And the response under sine excitation of the 3-D model was also calculated. Then, the accuracy of this model was estimated by comparing with the experimental results. Based on those, the transformation method in 3-D finite model, 1-D theory model and Complex modulus model was found. Finally, a method to calculate the random responses of the 3-D finite model was brought forward in this paper. Then models with different parameters were constructed, and their response was analyzed and compared. At last, the design curves which can be used in engineering practice were shown, which can establish the foundation for designing the Metal Rubber Damper.
