In order to meet the requirements of target for Accelerator Driven Subcritical System(ADS), tungsten alloy particle as the granular flow target has been developed in IMP. The new target has the advantages both of solid spallation target system and liquid spallation target system.The tungsten alloy particle could move under the magnetic force generated by gradient magnetic field. The magnetic lifting device is developed to lift targets to a certain height. It could effectively overcome the limitation of mechanical lifting. With the advantage of simple structure, easily closed pipeline, lower failure rate and handy maintenance, the magnetic lifting device could work in the high temperature and intense radiation environment.Square-wave pulse current and three-phase current as different excitation for the device are discussed in the paper. For square-wave magnetic lifting prototype, control the power-on and power-off time of each solenoid to achieve the movement of magnetic field. The magnetic field acts on the targets to complete the transportation of alloy particles. For traveling-wave magnetic lifting prototype, the solenoids are powered by variable frequency three-phase current to get the traveling-wave magnetic field.In the paper, the aperture and length and current are considered to design the structure of the solenoid. Ansys Maxwell is used to analyze the static distribution of magnetic field and dynamic lifting simulation for different excitation. The model is simplified to calculate the magnetic force and speed of the tungsten alloy particle. The analysis results show the practicability of the device and build theoretical foundation for the final device.Based on the numerical analysis, the structure of solenoid is designed and the fabrication of solenoids has been finished. The experiments for two different excitations have been completed. For square-wave magnetic lifting prototype, the power-on and power-off time of each solenoid is regulated to optimize lifting. For traveling-wave magnetic lifting prototype, we change the frequency and voltage of three-phase current to get different magnetic force and speed. According to the result of experiment, the transportation efficiency and characteristic for two different excitations is discussed.Based on the experiments, the final system which combines square-wave and traveling-wave is proposed for the ADS. Finally, according to the experimental results, the improvement scheme for further project is put forward.
