Modern cities are from the original formation of the progressive development of human settlements. From the historical point of view, most of these early human settlements are near water distribution points. With the expansion of the city, due to the shortage of land and other factors, some cities along the river turns to the development of the city across the river, and urban waterfront is the city’s most attractive and recognizable urban space.Baoji is one of the earliest cities which is formed by Weihe River with a long history and splendid culture. It has formed a unique urban waterfront in the long process of cities’ development. With the establishment of the implementation of the western development strategy and the guantian economic zone, as a sub-center, Baoji faces great opportunities and challenges in its development. So does the construction of the waterfront.With the research purposes and objects of the urban spatial morphology, this paper analyzes the background and evolution of the urban development of Baoji. Based on the status quo and related Baoji planning principles, the paper defines the scope of the waterfront, dividing the waterfront area into four parts to conduct a thorough and meticulous investigation and research. The main contents include waterfront urban spatial morphology characteristics and the status quo of the relationship between the city and river, the status quo of river conditions and present land use and the status quo of transportation and landscape. And the paper investigates the constituent elements of urban spatial morphology, such as the city profile in each part, Riverfront facade, the iconic nodes and so on. According to the above field research, collation and analysis of the data, the paper sums up the characteristics and shortcomings of Baoji waterfront space. And under the principles of the city planning of the persistence, accessibility and diversity, the paper gives some advice on the development of Baoji Weihe River Waterfront.
