Nowadays, More and more emphasize is paid to the sustainable architecture. Energy-saving buildings have been considered to be the important development trend of the construction of the cities in our country. Sustainable and intensified development should be greatly advocated. Every parameter decided in the design phase will directly effect the energy consumption during the whole building lifetime due to the fact that the systematic and efficient energy-saving design ideas are the essential precondition for realizing the real green and low-carbon design. The design on building performance in our country is the analysis of the environmental data in the evaluation phrase, that is, it becomes the regular authentication of the building performance after the some design phase. The diverse architecture design aims and the complex strategies of building performance would result in the mutually restricted and mutually limited relationship in certain cases. There is some kind of limitation on the traditional design methods regarding to the overall control on the project in the design phase because of the diversity of the project goals.With the development of the computer technics, architecture design methods undergoing gradually changes. New technics would assimilate into the traditional methods. The rapid development of the computer techniques provides a new platform for design, and the architects have new possibility for controlling the design process in this information era. Real-time design – feedback method would come into practice step by step. This research has taken the writer’s real project, combined with relevant digital techniques, to research on the practical application of the optimization of energy saving of the building design based on genetic algorithm. At the same time, this research concludes the applicable strategies and process of the optimization methods in the overall architectural design project and foresees the possible applications in the future.First of all, it analyses the materials and application cases on various aspects, like current energy saving design situation, strategies and techniques; the application on the synthesis of architectural form; the advantages and the current application of the optimization based on genetic algorithm. And it establishes a relevant technical system by summarizing the methods aiming at the optimization to reduce the energy consumption.Secondarily, by the careful theoretical study, the analysis of the contents and the crucial problems on the energy saving strategies in the design phrase and the methods to reducing the energy consumption based on genetic algorithm result in the applicable principles and set up a practical applicable process on the optimization of the energy saving on buildings based on the genetic algorithm.Thirdly, taking the building volume on the real project as a case, this research accomplishes the single-objective optimizations on the shape coefficient of building and on frontal area ration and multi-objective optimization on both shape coefficient of building and frontal area ration. What is more, it discusses the effect of the weight coefficients of both objectives on the design result. This research is based on the real project as research case, which would be a good reference for the practical application of the researched optimization methods.
