Hydro-mechanical variable transmission(HMT for short) is a parallel transmission with a hydraulic power flow and mechanical power flow. Such transmissions due to the presence of the hydraulic circuit, so as to have variable speed characteristics, the mechanical loop with high efficiency, can significantly improve the fuel economy and power of the vehicle. It is now widely used in farming vehicles, sanitation vehicles, military special vehicles, engineering vehicles, so research on it has a very important social and practical value. It has many difference with the ordinary passenger cars, the special work vehicle has its own special mode. In general, there are two types of special operations vehicle operating states: the working state and the transition state, in order to solve the matching motive power at work and transition issues, this article presents research complex hydro-mechanical transmission, in order to improve the transmission of the original car.The paper introduced the research on Hydro-mechanical Transmission at home and abroad. Analyzed the related basic characteristics, including the stepless speed, torque, power distribution characteristic and so on. The analysis of the output coupled HMT’s power split is less volatile, and input coupled HMT’s speed characteristic is linearization.Based on the basic theory of HMT analysis, combined with the previous research points Output Coupled HMT, we propose a new structure—Compound Coupled HMT. This paper deals with the structure of the transmission system characteristics analysis, including speed control, power distribution characteristics and efficiency characteristics.The paper describes the current complex domestic and international transmission of research results, we conducted a comprehensive theoretical analysis of its related basic features, including stepless speed, torque, power distribution characteristic and so on. The analysis of the output coupled speed regulation characteristic of nonlinear, input coupling on the power split easily appear larger fluctuation.And then, using the AMESim software for system analysis for the basic characteristic of the Compound coupled HMT. And it has carried on the related to dynamic characteristics simulation analysis, the transmission is obtained dynamic, starting, driving characteristic curve, verify the validity of the model.Finally, the simulation between the compound coupled HMT and the output coupled HMT’s simulation results reflected that the compound coupled HMT have the advantage on the speed range, exploding load stiffness, but the adjust time is disadvantage.
