According to an investigation report on anthropology released by Geo Wissen which is a scientific magazine in Germany, people spend about 60% of time in family and quality of living space directly impacts people’s living quality. With the improvement of people’s living standards, houses are no longer “machines for living in”;on the contrary, the need to meet people’s emotional needs and present habitants’ personalities and tastes. In China, however, the fact is that interior designs are following“the same pattern”. In order to compete with others, a lot of design companies have put forward the slogan of “free design”. Such vicious competition has directly resulted in declined level of interior design. Meanwhile, designers are varying from each other in design level and some of them have been trained only on computer. Due to limited knowledge reserve, those designers simply copy some design styles online and follow preferences of house owners only in form of design. In other words, they do not discover individual needs of every living space from a professional perspective.In the light of above problems, this paper has put forward a subject, that is“research of individual furnishing design of living space”. The core issues of this subject are: what factors are affecting furnishing individualization of living space? How to create individual living space with these factor? Research of these problems can effectively change the “following the same pattern” state in China.This paper is consisting of four parts. In part one, the subject of “individual furnishing design of living space” is proposed considering development state of interior design in China and certain theoretical foundation is laid for later statement. In part two,factors that affect furnishing design of individual living space is studied from perspective of emotional needs, which is consistent with the “human-centered” trend of times. Moreover, a statement is made from cultural development(vertical analysis) and inter-national regional and cultural differences(horizontal analysis) so as to attain a more comprehensive and reliable research result. In part three, a statement on how to create individual living space atmosphere is stated by basing on analyses in part two.Finally, in the conclusion part, shortcomings of this paper are pointed out.
