The Performance Research Of Tailing Sand’s Preparation In Rural Highway Concrete

With the booming construction industry, the quantity of the concrete used is also increasing, which leads to a serious crisis of the raw materials, such as sand, stone and so on. While with the development of the metallurgical industry, the amount of tailings sand is also increasing. The increasing tailings sand not only destroys the surrounding environment, but also does great damage to the life of human.At present, the transportation industry in China focuses on the construction of rural highway, which is the link between urban and rural areas.Because of the low speed and less traffic, the rural road has some advantages such as high masses participation, using local materials, few maintenance cost and so on. They all conform to the guideline that rural road construction should mobilize and rely on the masses.The rural highway concrete of different strength grade from C20 to C40 were formulated in this paper, using tailings sand to replace natural sand in different intensity levels. The work performance, mechanical property, permeability and shrinkage properties of tailings sand concrete had been studied. The test results show that the concrete has excellent performances and high compressive and flexural strength, which meets the pavement concrete demand for working performance and mechanical properties. Meanwhile the concret also has good shrinkage properties and durability.Therefore, the tailing sand can be used in rural highway concrete instead of natural sand.Because the management of the tailing pond needs a large amount of fund and the tailing sand is cheaper than the natural sand. So using the tailing sand reasonably can not only solve the concrete sand shortage, but also can take full advantage of industrial waste,save energy and natural resources, and protect the environment. It has good economic and social benefits, which is very significant to the economy construction of our nation.
