Ya Lu highway is one section of Beijing to Kunming's highway which is one of seven capital radioactive rays in the national high speed highway network,and this section's completion as soon as possible has the important meaning to that Sichuan domestic south section of Beijing to Kunming highway will soon link up to the national high speed highway network. About 50 km of Shimian to Lu Gu line locates at Shimian County in Sichuan Province. Shimian County acquires fame because of being rich in the asbestos. Approximately every 26 tons asbestos mine can only produce the asbestos 1 ton, and the remaining 25 tons of asbestos is known as tailings.Massive tailings that has not undergone any processing pile up in Shimian County.Loose asbestos tailings piled up not only seriously pollutes the environment, but also possibly causes the natural disaster which brings great harm to national and people's personal safety and property. In the long run, asbestos tailings affects local sustainable development.In accordance with the guiding principles of highway construction that should make use of local materials as much as possible.Based on the consideration to solve the outstanding issues of the local area surrounding and to seek good-quality construction of Ya Lu Highway, the paper has a scientific research that asbestos tailings used in highway projects as coarse aggregate in concrete.the prime task is as follows:(1) Determined the chemical composition of asbestos tailings. With coarse aggregate basic performance tests, analysis the geometric nature of asbestos tailings, and determines of asbestos tailings grade, soil content and other harmful impurities content.In addition, asbestos tailings's crushed value, robustness and alkali-aggregate reaction tests are done to obtain the aggregate asbestos tailings comprehensive technical indicators,and tailings were compared with the local crushed stone ;(2) Studied the unit volume of water quality, sand percentage, the ratio of fly ash quality and the quality of water and cement ratio to the asbestos tailings concrete workability influence rule.(3) Developed a asbestos tailings concrete mix orthogonal experimental design. Examined and evaluated concrete workability and determined of the cube compressive strength. Studied its durability, such as resistance to hydraulic pressure, resistance to freezing and thawing, and sulfate attack.(4) Asbestos tailings concrete mix design has been optimized. And make the durability and cost of concrete as the objective function, strength as restrictions. Under the premise of Strength in the guarantee to seek durability best and to achieve the lowest cost.(5) Analysis of the pollution of asbestos tailings, and proposed construction of protective measures.Test results show that asbestos tailings aggregate meet the requirements of "Test Methods of Aggregate for Highway Engineering". Workability, mechanical properties and resistance to hydraulic pressure, resistance to freezing of asbestos tailings concretes, are also meet the requirements of " Test Methods of cement and cement concrete for Highway Engineering ", and asbestos tailings concrete can be used for coarse aggregate of road using concreate.
