The XIYAN EXPRESSWAY is located in Loess Plateau of Shaanxi, where there is the most thick loess covered, millions of gullies, with complicated topography and exiguous vegetation covered because of long-term water erosion.The highway side slope collapse, landslide, debris flow and other goe-hazard could be found here and there all over the plateau. Reasonable slope protection measures can reduce the probability of highway slope diseases. Highway cutting slope protection can cut down the maintenance and management cost of construction project, and benefit to the safety, ecological environment of great significance.On the basis of domestic and international study of advanced technology and measures for slope protection, this paper, summarized and analyzed the geological characteristics of the natural environment and engineering characteristic along the highway. By surveying the XIYAN EXPRESSWAY construction project, we summed up the safety problems in the cutting slopes, as for landslide, rockfall, the hazard classification and the cases are also studied.Through a detailed study of the rainfall, the groundwater to the slope of the softening, latent inhibition, and combined with the XIYAN expressway engineering as an example, we analyzed the impact on slope stability and functions and introduced the causes and control measures of the cutting slope disasters.Through the above research,the design theory of slope reinforcement and protection combined with the XIYAN Expressway characteristics, the paper put forward measures for the western highway loess slope, rock slope, soil slope protection of rock slope reinforcement, the slope design should focus on the ecological and environmental protection through the project example, and the comprehensive disposal measures of prevention and treatment for engineering protection and combining the biological protection.
