With the rapid growth of our economy, the demand of urban inhabitant for travel is increasing. At the same time, the number of vehicles in cities is also increasing dramatically in a short time. As a result, the roads in cities are overburdened and traffic congestion is more serious in that cars outnumber the capacity of cities. Among those modes of transportation, bus is viewed as the most effective way to solve the problem because of its vast capacity, low cost and broaden range. Ensuring the bus priority at intersections and reducing the time waiting is the primary goal, and it’s good for the overwhelming majority of the people. Therefore, this paper focuses on the traffic priority at intersections. The main contents of the paper include next parts, as following:1、On the basis of researches at home and abroad, the paper introduces basic concepts of the priority of traffic and traffic signal, distinguish their differences, and proposes the classification and characteristics of transit signal priority in detail, using the transit signal priority as research object. Meanwhile, the paper studies the present traffic priority signal control which requires environment to ensure its practicality. At the same time, the paper analyzes the present bus testing technology and studies traffic priority signal strategy. On the basis of comparison of their features, inductance coil detector is adopted to test the bus. The priority is classified as peak times control and off-peak times control by analyzing the passenger volume.2、The method of induction control optimization is adopted to adapt traffic signal priority at off-peak times. When a bus is arriving at intersection which is detected by inductance coil detector, the time of green light is extended for bus priority to reduce its waiting at intersection. Based on fuzzy logic control, traffic signal priority at peak time is proposed. The influence that queue length of social vehicles and public transit at intersection works on signal is divided. Therefore, the influence of the former is greater to show its priority at intersection. And fuzzy controller for phase demand is designed by setting the two as input. The phase at intersection is dynamically controlled when the next phase of green light is outputted to cut the time waiting at intersections.3、The simulation software TransModeler and MATLAB are used to validate the signal control strategies at off-peak times and peak times by simulation, the results show that the method this thesis proposed is superior to Timing control.
