In some western countries, the management and governance of urban Brownfield started relative earlier, under the ecological rehabilitation and development, at the same time, they pay much attention on the transformation of the function of lands as well as the protection and utilization of industrial heritage. At present, some western countries have formed a set of relatively complete system of how to development Brownfield sustainably. However, the industrial transition in China is just started, it has not been formed a set of effective system. In fact, in some major cities, the decline of natural resources, the increase of Brownfield and how to form an effective system to administrate the sustainable development of Brownfiled, are particular important to our country. The thesis is focus on the research of sustainable development of urban Brownfield. Any practical activities should be supported by theories, thus, the planning and re-use of Brownfield should be supported by the theory of ecological design, sustainable development, landscape design and green design. In Chapter 3, it describes the current status of Brownfield utilization in China, it also introduces the existing problems of Brownfield governance and simply illustrates the reasons that cause related problems. In Chapter 4, it raised several research strategies towards the sustainable development of Brownfield, with the hope of to be the part of theoretical support to the future Brownfield governance in China. In Chapter 5, it emphasizes an representative case of Brownfield governance, which is Dao En Economy zone in Shandong Province.
