Scientific development, Surveying and Mapping comes first. In the planning and design stage of the municipal engineering, the primary mission of Surveying and Mapping is to provide reliable terrain data. It includes banded topographic map getting and the section data gaining. Banded topographic map provides the foundation for the road arrangement. Sections data are important information of engineering design and construction. It can reflect the intuitionistic contour of ground. Recently, with the development of urbanization, the construction of regional large infrastructure follows the rezoning of city planning. Road engineering is an important part of infrastructure construction field; it presents the requirements of high quality and the tight project schedule. There for, it is more urgent for the information collection on Surveying and Mapping.At present, the section data is generally acquired through the point-to-point field measurements. While the measurements expose a lot of problems, such as fussy operation, inefficiency and so on. In daily work, previous road reconstruction is often encountered, and the projects are generally constructed in a traffic jam or complicate environment. Consequently, point by point field measurements can’t work well. However, there is scarcely to find a preferable solution of the problem for the original measuring method.To solve this series of problems and provide better and faster service to the planning and construction, this article starting from the actual operation, proposed a method to get vertical and horizontal cross-section data quickly to meet the needs of planning and design through analyzing and utilizing existing data. Details are as follows:1. The current measuring method can improved by taking the advantage of efficient data acquisition instrument, such as network RTK and no prism of total station. Higher demand of project content and data quality are raised without changing work routine. On the one hand, improving and standardizing the quality of the data; On the other hand, providing the basis for the access to interpolation elevation point data.2. Analyzing and selecting the elevation point interpolation method, choose a kind of efficient and concise method of elevation point interpolation.3. Interpolation section point height and generate the cross section data.4. Transforming the canned format section data to general format data which is designed for various road design software.Compared with traditional practices, the use of this method reflects the specific bit as follows:1. In Field measurements stage, because of increasing the acquisition of the terrain feature points and lines, quality of graphics has been greatly improved; industry processing phase, the topographic map database in strict accordance with the standards, to meet the demand of informatization measurement.2. Omitted the field to get cross section data step again, greatly improved work efficiency.3. The section point remained on topographic maps in the form of elevation point, inspection and modification is more convenient and intuitive.4. It can quickly generate any more real road centerline vertical and horizontal cross-section data.
