Industrial irradiation accelerator system is a radiation processing system with very promising prospect. It makes the electron beam(0.2MeV-10MeV) produced by an electron accelerator to replace the energy of γ-ray produced by a radioisotope(Cs-137 or Co-60) to transfer the irradiated material. Ionizing radiation has an effect on the irradiated material, resulting in ionization and excitation, releasing orbital electrons, forming free radicals. By controlling the irradiation conditions, it can make the irradiated physical performances and chemical compositions transform into a new substance that people needed or make organisms(microbes) suffering from irrecoverable loss and damage, then reaching the target that people need. The traditional way of large-sized linear constant voltage charging has become difficult to meet the power requirements of 10 MeV industrial irradiation accelerator. Therefore, the requirements to develop a greater power, better stability, user-friendly system maintenance pulse modulator become increasingly urgent. Opportunities always be along with challenges, if the high-power pulse modulator is made into reality after the study, it must has good market competitiveness. Meanwhile, it will promote the development of domestic research in the field of radiation modulator.This is aims at developing an industrial radiation modulator, complying with the following performance requirements:1. The main charging power supply based on 8 LC series resonant charging technology, it will charge for a capacity of 0.48μF capacitor within 1.5ms, the charging voltage will reach 24kV(max25kV). It makes the use of thyratrons for energy storage capacitor to fast discharge by pulse transformer coupling, forming the negative pulse with 20μS half width, 90 A discharge current, 130 kV discharge voltage, which matches the klystron supplied.2. S7-200 Industrial PLC is recognized as the core controller, the local and remote triggers can be achieved by software control, and the timing will be generated to affect the entire modulator to control the charging and discharging time.3. A variety of fault protection functions and discharge protection functions are realized by software.4. The software realizes the voltage setting and the collection of charging voltage, i.e., AD / DA conversion, and the software realizes the control of system charging flow.This is focuses on the main principles and techniques, using the simulation tools of Matlab software to program the PLC and its WICCflexible2008 software for control system, and then normal operation and reliable protection of the power supply can be achieved.
