With the rapid development of China’s iron and steel industry,the output of iron tailings is also increasing.A large number of iron tailings occupation of land, blocked rivers and pollute the environment.On the other hand,the materials required to highway construction is increasingly scarce,if we can use iron tailings as road-building material,not only the problem of the road-building material shortage can be solved,and also the stock and pollution can be reduced, the environment can be improved,which is good of energy conservation and environmental protection.This topic use iron tailings of QiDaShan in AnShan as the research object,first study of its physical properties,through screening and density test and other tests,determining its gradation composition,fineness modulus and the apparent density of engineering technical requirements.By the analysis of contrast,finding it meets using requirement of fine aggregate of asphalt mixture.To comprehensive study the technical performance of using iron tailings in asphalt mixture,this topic use 90#road asphalt and SBS modified asphalt as cement,and use rubble,stone chips,iron tailings and slag as mineral raw materials,then do experiment research and analysis of the five types of asphalt mixture which is AC-10,AC-13,AC-16,AC-20 and AC-25.Use the mixture ratio design program to design and optimize each type of asphalt mixture,then determine the best oil-stone ratio of each type of asphalt mixture with Marshall test.To evaluate road performance of each type of asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings compositely,inspect its high temperature stability with Marshall stability test,water stability with Marshall immersion test and inspect its low temperature crack resistance with splitting strength test,then compare the test results with the specification requirements,inspect the scope of application of each type of asphalt mixture.The last,compare asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings with the common asphalt mixture with economical method.Studies have shown that the road performance and the indicators of five kinds of asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings using 90#road asphalt and SBS modified asphalt as cement meet the specification requirements.The Marshall stability of asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings even better than common asphalt mixture.Compared with the specification requirements,it can be found that the flow value of the asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings which is AC-10,AC-13 and AC-16 all in the requirements of high,which means it suitable for summer hot and summer cool area,or can be used for the light of traffic in summer hot area.On the other hand,the flow value of the asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings which isAC-20 and AC-25 all in the requirements of low,which means it can be used for the Heavy traffic in summer hot area.The residual stability of each type of asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings all higher than 85%,some even higher than 90%,which means it can be used in damp area.the systematic study of asphalt mixture composed of iron tailings in this subject has provided a new way and opened up a new way of thinking for comprehensive utilization of iron tailings.
