As the fight for maritime rights and the development of coastal resources attracting more and more attention, planing boat has been widely used because of its good mobility and high-speed. The hydrodynamic performance of planing boat is closely related to security, but due to the particularity of planing boat, the research of its hydrodynamic performance is more difficult than conventional vessel. In recent years, with the progress of computer technology, the advance of solver precision and the improvement of the grid technology, the numerical simulation method based on CFD theory has been more widely used to study the movement of planing boat. Numerical simulation has bacome an solution to the study of hydrodynamic performance which has important engineering meaning.Based on CFD theory, this paper conducts preliminary research for the hydrodynamic performance of planing boat. The aim of this paper is to analyze the feasibility and accuracy of this method by studying and using software Fluent.Firstly, this paper conducted numerical simulation for the motion of planing boat in static water under different navigation attitude and got the resistance values, and also compared with the values from empirical formula. Meanwhile, the curve of resistance values changing with speed was given, and the dynamic pressure and total pressure condition of bottom was inspected. The results basically conform with the actual situation and the feasibility of this method is vertified.Secondly, this paper conducted numerical calculation for the hydrodynamic coefficient of planing boat. It got the lateral force and moment of oblique motion, swaying motion and yawing motion. Then, the relevant hydrodynamic coefficients were obtained according to the theoretical formula.Last, according to the wave theory of fluid mechanics, this paper finished simulating the numerical wave based on the wave making method of velocity boundary. It provides reference for the study of numerical pool. On the basis of dynamic grid, the paper did preliminary research for the motion in waves and qualitatively analyzed the results. Judging from the results, the motion resistance and lift force in waves meet the cyclical changing rule and also the changing circle is nearly the same as the wave circle which conforms with the conclusion from theoretical analysis.
