Along with the development of transportation industry in our country, the highway construction in permafrost regions is increasing, and the engineering construction inevitably on the frozen soil disturbance, led to the thawing permafrost, road frost heave and thawing settlement and other diseases. So the construction of structures in frozen soil, the need for detailed engineering survey. Resistivity method is very well suitable for permafrost area survey. Soil resistivity can well reflect the characteristics of the soil, in order to more accurate judgment to the formation characteristics, and the results of the resistivity test justify. The present study provides a theoretical basis for the electrical exploration of the distribution of shallow underground permafrost.In this paper, through establishment and experimental verification of frozen soil resistivity model, the derivation of an in-depth study on characteristics of frozen soil resistivity, the frozen soil resistivity test results and comparison of the frozen soil resistivity model derived from the theory, the rationality of the frozen soil resistivity model is verified, the main contents are as follows:First, based on Mitchell’s ternary soil electrical conductivity model and the unsaturated clay resistivity model established, we derive a formula for the resistivity of frozen soil by assuming that the frozen soil also has three electric transmission routes:soil particles, ice-water mixture, and soil-ice-water mixture (the air transmission route was ignored). We then analyzed factors influencing the resistivity of frozen soil.Second, according to the test method of soil resistivity and the characteristics of frozen soil, we determine the frozen soil resistivity indoor test instruments, methods and solutions, and experiments were conducted to examine how the moisture content of the unfrozen soil, initial moisture content, soil temperature, and dry density affect the resistivity of frozen soil, reveal the factors impact on the frozen soil resistivity.Finally, the relationships between frozen soil resistivity and the different influencing factors deduced from the frozen soil resistivity model are basically consistent with the equations obtained from fitting the experimental data. Thus, the rationality of the frozen soil resistivity model is verified.
