Crossing the river for transmission lines is a problem which most countries in the world are in face of in the construction of transmission lines. The mainly ways for transmission lines to cross the river are directly buried in river bottom, river bottom excavation, trenchless cable through pipe, big leap overhead lines and so on. In order to ensure the safety, reliability, and economy of transmission lines, in-depth research and analysis are needed to determine the cross-river scheme.This paper systematically investigated the current supply methods for islands at present. Combined with the specific circumstances of Jiangxinzhou in Zhenjiang, four schemes that are directly buried in river bottom, river bottom excavation, trenchless cable through pipe and big leap overhead lines have been carefully compared from the aspects of safety, technical feasibility and economy. Finally, we have a conclusion that trenchless cable through pipe is the best solution.The key point and the difficulty of the scheme is the trenchless directional drilling technology which was systematically studied in this paper. Combined with the engineering practice, this paper elaborated the construction steps, construction equipment and construction technology, laying a solid theoretical foundation for the implementation of this project.The concrete construction process was elaborated including carrying the preliminary theoretical calculation, selecting the construction equipment scientifically and grasping the key nodes of the construction. At last, the project completed successfully under the guidance of the theory.The research in this paper has important theoretical and practical significance. First, the electricity problem has been solved fundamentally in Jiangxinzhou, improving the power quality and reliability and contributing to the economic development and raising people’s livelihood. Second, this project was carried out for the first time in the history of Zhenjiang which has innovation significance. Through summarizing the specific practices, a systematically theoretical and practical template was provided. It provides a beneficial reference to solve similar problems along the Yangtze River.
