With a number of UHV AC projects have been put into operation, a national interconnected grid in which UHV AC is the skeleton, the large hydro,the large nuclear, the large coal and the large renewable base as the main energy base is being formed. The new features of the UHV AC project have new effects on dynamic behavior of the grid, which brings new challenge for the Automatic Generation Control(AGC) system’s effective control. In order to study the issues of relation between the sources and grids, the accurate and reliable simulation model is essential. However, the existing AGC dynamic simulation model used for the mid-term and long-term is not perfect, and there is no model for the control strategy of the UHV tie-line, which has bad effect on the mid-term and long-term simulation work. Aimed at these problems, the related issues have been carried out mainly from the following aspects:(1)The control principle of the AGC system, the function of the main blocks in the AGC system, as well as the research circumstances about AGC simulation analysis, the research of the UHV AV tie-line control and the research about the software of the full process dynamic simulation are summarized. Based on the research above, the technical route of making the new AGC system model is put forward.(2)Starting from the early AGC models in the widely used full process dynamic simulation(PSD-FDS) program, combined with the actual AGC system, aimed at shortcomings of the early AGC model, a new AGC model has been constructed. This new model can simulate not only the control modes that the early AGC model can do, but also the AGC control strategies that are based on the widely-used standards. The simulation conclusions have proved the validity of the new model.(3)The features of the UHV tie-line control evaluation criteria-T1/T2 standard are analysed and summarized. Combined with the practical experience, a AGC control strategy model which is used for mid-term and long-term dynamic simulation of the UHV tie-line is constructed. The simulation about the new model are accomplished. The conclusion has proved the effective of the new model.(4)The program of the new constructed models above has been developed in power system full-term dynamic simulation program, which has expanded the function of the PSD-FDS program.(5)Through the PDS-FDS program which has developed the new AGC models program, The simulation cases which is based on the actual system have been studied. The simulation research about the AGC control strategies and thermal stability problems have been accomplished.
