With the development of society and the progress of science and technology, the standards of people’s life improve and material conditions become better. At the same time, the pace of life is speeding up, the stress of life and study make people eager to improve their lives in comfort, convenience and safety. Smart home develops and becomes a research hotspot in this context. The variety and the number of household electrical appliances increase, meanwhile they disperse in many rooms, it is inconvenience to control them. In this paper, a embedded smart home control system based on ARM and radio frequency technology is designed. The article is written in two aspects: the video surveillance and the control of home appliance. The work mainly includes the following:Firstly, the article describes the research background of the smart home, analyzes the status quo and future development at home and abroad. Then, it introduces the technology needed by the system, it focuses on the analysis and comparison of commonly used wireless communication technology. It selects radio frequency technology as the primary communications technology.Secondly, according to the requirements, it gives out the overall design of the system. A control center is set up which regards S3C2440 processor as the control core. Universal remote control, communication nodes and smart receptacles are designed using STM32 processor. To solve the networking problems of multiple micro-controller indoor, the RF data transmission protocol is designed. Thus, the system achieves to control infrared and non-infrared appliances from near distance and far distance.Thirdly, in view of the user’s security needs, security alarm features have been designed in the control center. Using relevant modules, the hardware platform is set and it implements GSM communication between the user and the control center. The acquisition, compression of image and PTZ control are designed in the article and it gives out the strategy of sending SMS and MMS in the GSM module part.Finally, simulating a home environment in laboratory, a test is done to examine the functions of the system. The results show the stability of image acquisition and it monitors well. Communication nodes and smart receptacles can control the appliances effectively. The system is scalable, feature-rich and easy to use. It has a certain value in smart home field.
